Dalton Stanland Dalton Stanland is a six times DownBeat magazine student award-winning saxophonist

Dalton Stanland is six-time national DownBeat Magazine Student Award-winning saxophonist. His accolades include awards in the Jazz soloist category and twice in the Blues/Pop/Rock soloist category, as well as awards for group “Stink Stank Stanland” twice in the Blues/Pop/Rock Group category and the “Dalton Stanland Latin Jazztet” in the Latin Group category. He graduated saxophone performance at the University of Kentucky, under the direction of Miles and Lisa Osland. He has had the honor to perform with notable artists including Miguel Zenon, Alex Hahn, Derek Brown, Jeff Coffin, Jim Snidero, Ryan Middaugh, and Ernie Watts. Dalton has also received other musical awards including the UK School of Music John Barnes Chance Composition Award and The Woodwinds/Percussion/Jazz (Jazz Division) McCracken Award twice. He was also a winner of the 2023 UK Wind Symphony concerto competition and performed the Mike Mower Saxophone Concerto with the UK Wind Symphony pictured above. Some of his composition accomplishments include original composition for the UK Wind Symphony entitled “Desiderium” to be performed. “Pogo” featured at the 2023 Jazz Education Network (JEN) conference. He attended the 2024 Midwest Clinic as a guest performer and composer to perform original composition “Epilogue” written by Dalton Stanland and colleague Clifton Grady with the UK Jazz Ensemble. Other conferences Dalton has attended include the National Saxophone Alliance, Navy Saxophone Symposium, and Elmhurst Jazz Festival Conferences. Dalton also oversees “J.J. Band,” a collective comprised of Jazz musicians that performs at various venues, weddings, and events. His most recent news is that some singles and his first live album will be released soon. He continues to hone his craft as he pursues a career in Jazz performance and composition.
